They were pledges, and the vast majority were 18. The walls were painted black and the thermostat was set to 81 degrees, "creating hot and humid conditions," police said. Not all of them walked out unhurt. "Several of these men had visible injuries consistent with being physically assaulted," the department said. Two members of the fraternity, both 20, were arrested for hazing and disorderly conduct. The University of Wisconsin cut ties with the chapter more than a decade ago, but its national organization still recognizes it, so it kept running out of the same house a few blocks from campus. The university has opened its own investigation. Police released a photo from the basement with every face blurred. It looks exactly how it sounds.
