BREAKING🚨🏳️🌈 Republican who called for EXECUTING LGBTQ+ people just got humilitated at the ballot box — receiving only 90 votes. Jadon MacCormack, a 23-year-old first-time candidate from Brooklyn, Connecticut, was the Republican party’s endorsed pick for the 50th House District. “If you’re a sodomite, you should get the death penalty. Simple as that,” he said in an interview last month, first reported by CT News Junkie’s Donald Eng. In that same interview he said he wants the Supreme Court to re-criminalize sex between two men, void every same-sex marriage in the country, take children out of the homes of LGBTQ+ couples, remove every LGBTQ+ person from the education system, and execute anyone proven to be LGBTQ+, even someone celibate who has committed no crime. All of it, he said, was necessary to "protect children." He also compared LGBTQ+ people to "pedophiles and mass murderers." Earlier, responding to a post about same-sex marriage, he shared an image of a noose with the words "The Bible has a better idea." When a caller told him the noose could evoke lynchings, he replied that he considers himself "race-inclusive." So local Republicans went looking for anyone else. Anthony Emilio, a 70-year-old Pomfret bed-and-breakfast owner recruited after MacCormack refused to withdraw, collected roughly 340 signatures in three days to force his way onto the ballot. Only 238 were required. Voters just went to the polls and Emilio won with 78% of the vote. MacCormack got 90 votes. He then declared himself "the true winner" and told Emilio, "Go back to the retirement home you came from." House Republican leader Vincent Candelora had called MacCormack's posts "immature and reckless" and urged him to quit, saying voters deserved someone focused on "their paychecks, their property taxes and their kids' futures." He never mentioned the LGBTQ+ people MacCormack wanted killed. Pat Boyd, the Democrat who has held the seat since 2016 and now faces Emilio in November, said he was "deeply embarrassed that our region is drawing statewide, and potentially national attention for all the wrong reasons."
