BREAKING🚨🏳️‍🌈 Juju Nadeau, a 21-year-old trans woman, was stabbed to death on a Portland, Maine walking trail on August 5. Her partner had been planning to propose to her next summer. Juju Nadeau was walking with a group of friends along the Back Cove Trail on the evening of August 5, heading to a wall of graffiti under Tukey's Bridge that was one of her favorite places in the city. Court documents say a man rode up on a bicycle, argued with the group, then pulled a knife and began chasing Nadeau and a friend. He jumped on her and stabbed her in the chest. Police identified him as Glen Rodney, 58, of Portland. He is charged with murder and is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail. Liz McGehee, 26, one of Nadeau's closest friends, was standing right there. She tried to pull him off her and called 911. Officers found Nadeau in the breakdown lane of I-295. She died at Maine Medical Center. "She was here to make all of us better," McGehee said. Nadeau collected pins on her backpack and wore her clothes until they were tattered. White hat, knee-high Converse, an armful of handmade bracelets. She worked at the McDonald's in Saco. She was a furry, and the fursuit she became known for was a pink, green and white hyena she named Chlugsy, bought secondhand at a Halloween-themed convention in Stamford, Connecticut in 2024 and sewn back together again and again. Her partner of two years, Kasper DeWitt, 22, had planned to propose next summer at Anthrocon in Pittsburgh, where Nadeau spent more time on the waterfront outside than in the convention she paid to attend. "She experienced socially more than a lot of people ever will in their life," DeWitt said. "It's horrible because she would have had the chance to live 10 times that much." Police said this week that the investigation is still open and asked anyone who was near Tukey's Bridge that night to contact investigators.
