The Fourth Amendment protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures…. ICE agents don’t get to kidnap someone, from a coffee shop parking lot, without reasonable suspicion or probable cause. The Fifth Amendment guarantees due process…. Holding someone against their will while refusing to tell them why, or denying them access to contact anyone, is a constitutional violation

Pete Hegseth fired a three-star admiral to make her disappear, and on Tuesday the voters of South Carolina handed her a path to a seat in Congress. Her name is Nancy Lacore. Thirty-five years in the Navy. She started in the cockpit and finished with three stars and command of the entire Navy Reserve, roughly 59,000 sailors and Marines under her. Thirteen hundred flight hours. Command of the U.S. base in Djibouti. A chest of medals earned the slow way. Last August, Hegseth removed her. No hearing, no charge, no reason on the record. She called it what it was, a firing without cause. She lost her job the same afternoon he fired the intelligence chief whose agency had just concluded that the strikes on Iran set the nuclear program back by months, not the total obliteration the president kept selling. The people standing closest to an inconvenient truth were swept out together. That is the whole machine in one day. Competence stopped being the qualification. Loyalty became it. Tell the boss what the evidence says instead of what he wants to hear, and decades of service buy you nothing. Lacore could have taken the pension and the silence. She filed to run for Congress instead, in the South Carolina seat Nancy Mace walked away from to chase the governor's mansion and lose it. On Tuesday she won the Democratic nomination in a runoff, outright. This district has shipped a Republican to Washington for forty years. The money says she is serious anyway. Half a million dollars in her first two weeks. More than a million by late spring. Going into the summer she sat on nearly six times the cash of her Republican opponent, and a stack of veterans' groups behind her. Hegseth once stood in front of a room of generals and told anyone whose heart sank at his vision to do the honorable thing and resign. Lacore's heart did not sink, and she did not resign. He had to fire her. The firing did not end her service. It rerouted it. The man who pulled the stars off her shoulder may spend next year answering to a Congress with her vote in it, her name on the door, inside the building she spent a lifetime defending. He wanted her out of his chain of command. He may have just handed her a seat above it. - shared from The Other 98% FB page
