Given his past behavior, he'll simply invent a legal basis and proceed even though it's blatantly unconstitutional. He said that the process would cost a "fraction" of what it costs to house convicts in the United States which is likely true, but only because the prisoners would be subjected to utterly inhumane conditions. Worst of all, Trump said that the foreign countries could simply "keep them because these people are never going to be any good." Let's be totally clear about what Donald Trump is proposing here. He wants the power to strip Americans of their basic rights, rip away their citizenship, and lock them away in a dark hole somewhere else in the world. This is pure, unvarnished fascism. Given his corrupt staffing of the Justice Department with MAGA loyalists, this could easily lead to innocent people getting railroaded by the Trump administration and shuttled off to die in a foreign prison. The deep irony here is that Donald Trump is a convicted felon. He should be in prison himself, not floating ideas about mistreating other felons. This heinous idea was first boosted by MAGA billionaire Elon Musk — the man who many are calling the real president — when he quote-tweeted far-right Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele's offer to house American prisoners "in exchange for a fee." El Salvador has some of the worst, most overcrowded prisons in the world. And Donald Trump wants to fill them with American citizens.
