💔 MEET JERRY — A LEGACY PARROT WHO NEEDS US NOW. 💔 Yesterday, Majestic Wings Rescue picked up six legacy birds after the passing of their 93-year-old owner. We were told that he dearly loved his birds, and that Jerry, in particular, held a very special place in his heart. The scene told a story of its own. Two cockatiels shared one cage. Three more cockatiels lived in another. And then there was Jerry, alone in his cage, positioned beside the chair where his beloved dad sat. Imagine being Jerry. Imagine spending your days beside the person you knew, the person who cared for you, the person who was your world. And then, suddenly, everything changes. Your dad is gone, your familiar surroundings disappear, and you have no way of understanding why. But Jerry's story doesn't end there. Once we got him safely into the car, I had the opportunity to take a closer look at him. And what I discovered was deeply concerning. What was all over Jerry's beak? It was green. His beak appeared damaged, with a section missing. At first, I had so many questions. Was this the result of trauma? Had another bird injured him? Could there be an underlying disease? I carefully cleaned his beak and removed the debris. What I found was moldy food that had accumulated around his damaged beak. Jerry also had severely overgrown toenails, curling and spiraling well beyond their normal length. We carefully trimmed them back to help him become more comfortable. Jerry needs veterinary care, and he is scheduled to see the vet on Friday — the earliest appointment available. Right now, we do not know the full extent of his injury, what caused it, or what his prognosis will be. We need a veterinarian to examine him, determine what is happening with his beak, and help us understand what treatment he will need. We are hoping for answers. We are hoping for a path forward. Most of all, we want Jerry to have the opportunity to be comfortable and receive the care he needs. We also recognize that Jerry's previous owner was 93 years old. We do not know all the circumstances surrounding Jerry's condition, and we are not here to judge a man who, by all accounts, loved his birds. Sometimes, the needs of aging owners and the needs of the animals they love become difficult to manage. That is one of the heartbreaking realities of legacy birds. But now, Jerry is in our care, and his needs are our responsibility. At Majestic Wings Rescue, taking in a legacy bird means more than providing a cage and food. It means looking beyond the immediate circumstances, identifying medical concerns, arranging veterinary care, and doing everything we reasonably can to give that bird a chance. And that care comes with expenses. 💚 IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP JERRY, WE WOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT. Donations toward Jerry's veterinary examination, diagnostics, and any treatment he may require can be made through: Venmo: Majestic Wings Rescue Cash App: Majestic Wings Rescue Every contribution, regardless of size, helps us provide care for birds who have already experienced the loss of the person they knew as family. We will share updates after Jerry's veterinary appointment as we learn more about his condition and what lies ahead. For now, please keep Jerry in your thoughts. He has already lost his dad. He deserves comfort, compassionate care, and the chance to feel safe again. Because when a beloved owner passes away, the birds left behind still need someone to show up for them. And that is exactly what we intend to do for Jerry. Thank you for standing with Majestic Wings Rescue and helping us care for the birds who need us most. 💚🦜
