good they didn’t find anything wrong with it or anything in its autopsy ! just not a big eater I guess lol probably sick of eating dead whales wants some tater tots or something lol -The giant isopod is a deep sea crustacean, essentially a pill bug scaled up to the length of a forearm, and the largest documented specimens exceed two feet. Down there food arrives rarely, usually as a dead whale or large fish drifting down. So they are built for famine. When food appears they gorge until the body visibly swells, then run on those reserves for a very long time. Toba Aquarium in Japan received one in 2007 and labeled it No. 1. It fed normally for over a year. Then on January 2, 2009, it stopped. It never started again. Keepers offered food every six months, and photographers came to watch. Staff described it moving its mouth and front legs around the food as though eating, which they interpreted as the animal appeasing them. On February 14, 2014, keepers arrived with a Valentine's feeding and found it dead. Five years and 43 days without a single meal. A dissection found no cause. A memorial broadcast crashed the aquarium's server. And in 2020 another isopod at the same aquarium produced its first droppings in two years. They contained fish scales from a species the aquarium does not serve. 👇 #animalfacts #deepsea #natureisweird #didyouknow
