BREAKING: "INADMISSABLE!" Pope Leo XIV delivers a STINGING reminder about the sanctity of human life as Pentagon Pete prepares to turn a military execution into a ghoulish public spectacle! The first American pope has spoken out against the death penalty in unmistakable terms – just as Trump's Secretary of War Crimes is boasting about plans to livestream a prisoner being shot by a firing squad. “The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person,” Leo declared Saturday. The Chicago-born pontiff further pontificated that justice does not require taking a human life. “The common good can be safeguarded, and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment,” he wrote, emphasizing that even convicted criminals should not be completely deprived of the possibility of redemption. Meanwhile, Hegseth is taking a very different approach. You know, blood and death are awesome, or something. The SWC create a contretemps when he announced plans to execute Nidal Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted of murdering 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009, by firing squad – and broadcast the execution for the public to watch. This is hardly the first time Leo's understanding of Christianity has collided with the Trump administration's. Earlier this year, after Hegseth urged Americans to pray for military victory in the Middle East, Leo warned that the Christian mission has too often been “distorted by a desire for domination, entirely foreign to the way of Jesus Christ.” Trump accordingly attacked the pope as “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for foreign policy.” Now the contrast could hardly be more vivid: The head of the Catholic Church is speaking about mercy, human dignity, and the possibility of redemption, while the man running America's military is promoting an execution as something the public should be able to watch, like the ISIS videos we used to watch in horror. Leo is preaching the sanctity of life. Hegseth wants an audience for a firing squad, just like the terrorists he purports to want to defeat.
