BREAKING🚨🏳️‍🌈 A Tucson realtor’s racist, homophobic meltdown in first class ended with passengers duct-taping his HEAD to the seat—and his real estate firm firing him. Witnesses say he grabbed a passenger by the throat and bit a retired cop. Richard O’Lenick already hated flying. Now he was forced to pin down a 67-year-old man who looked him in the eye and said, “We’re all going to die. This plane is going to crash,” O’Lenick told the Daily Voice. The chaos started minutes earlier aboard American Airlines Flight 618 from Dallas to Newark. Layne Arthur Lundeen, 67, started yelling about Jesus and going to hell while shouting racist and homophobic slurs. When a Black flight attendant came over to calm him down, Lundeen called the attendant the N-word and used the F-slur. Then he turned on the passenger sitting beside him… Lundeen struck the man’s laptop and grabbed him around the throat. Juan Mejia, a retired New Jersey police officer sitting two rows ahead, turned around and saw Lundeen’s hands around the man’s neck. Mejia helped get the passenger out of the seat and away from Lundeen, then moved in beside him himself. O’Lenick joined him. A flight attendant handed them zip ties. They restrained Lundeen’s hands, but he kept fighting and managed to pull one free. He bit Mejia on the hand and forearm and tried to bite O’Lenick too. That is when the duct tape came out. They wrapped it around Lundeen’s hands, legs and body. He was still whipping his head around, trying to bite and headbutt them, so they taped his head back against the seat too, keeping his mouth and nose clear so he could breathe. The flight diverted to Baltimore. O’Lenick was using his own body weight to hold Lundeen down as the plane descended. When O’Lenick was finally told to return to his seat for landing, it lasted for about 15 seconds. Lundeen started fighting Mejia again, and O’Lenick went right back to help hold him down through touchdown. Police boarded the flight, removed the duct tape and zip ties, and arrested him. The Baltimore Banner reported, citing court records, that Lundeen then struck one of the officers in the chest. Lundeen suffered an open wound on his arm during the struggle. O’Lenick told The New York Times that when the adrenaline wore off, he noticed his pants were covered in Lundeen’s blood and had to change clothes. A cleaning crew spent an hour sanitizing the area before the flight could continue to Newark. Lundeen was arrested on assault and disorderly conduct charges and released the next day. The FBI is now reviewing the incident for possible federal charges. American Airlines said it doesn’t tolerate violence aboard its flights. Lundeen had been with Long Realty since 2013, serving as an associate broker and a vice president on its executive council. Long Realty just fired him.
