I truly didn’t understand how LOW people really think of low-income, struggling working-class, disabled, and struggling folks until I started sharing my grocery hauls and cooking videos. Apparently, some people believe being poor means you’re supposed to be miserable 24/7. The things people have called “luxuries” genuinely blow my fucking mind. A pizza. My grocery hauls. A healthy meal. A phone. Medical supplies and medication. It’s like some people genuinely believe poor people should be living in a cardboard box, eating moldy bread, wearing rags, and apologizing for the audacity of continuing to exist. And honestly? I’ve seen SO much more judgment since our house fire. People have scrutinized what we bought, what we still buy, what we eat, what we replaced, where we spend money, how we managed to get something and so on. And before someone trots out the tired-ass “wElL dOn’T pUt iT oNlInE” argument: That’s not the f’ng point. Some people want to WATCH someone suffer. They want you eating the cheapest possible food, wearing the cheapest possible clothes, going without necessities, and looking absolutely defeated so they can finally decide you’re “poor enough.” The second someone receives help, they need to justify every fucking penny. No matter what I do, someone will find something to bitch about. What I feed my family. How much I weigh. What I look like. What I buy. What I replace. How I spend money. How I survive. I could literally post a video of myself eating cold beans out of a can with a fork while sitting on the floor and someone would still be in the comments asking why I didn’t buy the 50-cent can instead of the $1.00 can. If my existence makes you angry because I’m not suffering in the exact way you think poor people should suffer… That is a YOU problem 🤷‍♀️
