BREAKING🚨 ICE detained a 21-year-old with a high-risk pregnancy, along with her toddler. She's now spent more than 40 DAYS in a Texas detention camp with NO ultrasound and NO doctor. Laura Rojas Ortiz was in the middle of applying for a U visa, the visa set aside for victims and witnesses of crime, when ICE ordered her to appear at its office in Dallas. Her mother, Paola, says she went, the way she always did. "She showed up like she always does, and they detained her," Paola told ABC News's Laura Romero, who first reported the story. That was more than 40 days ago. Rojas Ortiz and her infant son have been held since at the Dilley detention center in South Texas, the only facility in the country dedicated to locking up families with children, operated under contract by the private prison company CoreCivic. She turned herself in at the southern border just over a year ago with her son and her partner. She started the U visa process, her mother says, after a shooting in her neighborhood sent a bullet through her walls and grazed her son. She wore an ankle monitor. She made every check-in. She is five months pregnant, and her family says the pregnancy is high risk. "To this day, she hasn't gotten an ultrasound or been seen by a specialist," Paola said. "They haven't done blood tests or anything." ICE's own directive says the agency should not "detain, arrest, or continue to detain" anyone known to be pregnant, postpartum or nursing, outside exceptional circumstances. The toddler only drinks lactose-free milk. At Dilley, Paola says, staff have been giving him whole milk. When lawmakers came through the facility, Paola says her daughter was moved into a "medical room" and told a doctor would check her. "And when they left, so that the politicians wouldn't see her pregnant, that's when they let her out of that medical room," she said. DHS did not respond to a request for comment.
