"Because Trump" or the more euphemistic "because the world has changed" is the favourite thought-terminating cliché of Carney supporters. Offer any evidence-based criticism of any Carney policy & you will hear that these unusually dangerous times require it. But he's making us *more* vulnerable. Trump is an unreliable quixotic monstrosity, but untrustworthy actors and bullies have existed throughout human history, and virtually all of us have at least some personal experience of dealing with bullies and liars. You can't trust him for an instant, but some potential strategies are obvious.  We could, & should, respond to specific risks Trump’s creating with policies aimed at simultaneously mitigating those risks domestically. Action, counter-action. He commits more arson, we build better sprinkler systems.Straightforward, no? Carney's consistently doing the opposite.  Trump's regime has largely eliminated food inspection and food safety protections in the USA, making the more than half of our groceries that Canada purchases from the USA a greater threat to Canadian health than ever before. Explosive diarrhea lettuce, anyone? How does Mark Carney respond to groceries coming up to Canada from the USA now being less safe? He eliminates 587 food inspector jobs. Trump makes it awful. Carney makes it worse. Trump creates new risks for Canadians, Carney doubles down on them.  Then we also get to watch Carney give his cabinet the power to simply override food safety regulations. Trump cuts food safety, then Carney cuts food safety inspection, then he declares safety guidelines optional. It might even be funny if it weren't so wildly irresponsible.  Tossing away more previous safety guidelines, the Trump government has approved the use of more dangerous cancer-linked formerly banned pesticides in the USA. More toxic chemical company and private HMO cancer treatment profits in the same evil decision.  Not to be outdone, Mark Carney also seized the opportunity to approve use of banned pesticides. Cabinet can permit use of pesticides Health Canada has determined pose unacceptable health or environmental risks, for economic reasons. Profit over health.  The Trump government eliminated America's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, making it easier for American consumers to be cheated and defrauded with no recourse, justice, or support. It's now open season on scamming US citizens thanks to its scammer in chief. Fraudulent activity by bad US actors will surely cross the border. AI is increasingly turbocharging fraud. So Mark Carney emulates Trump by defunding Canada's Office of Consumer Affairs, which closes its doors in March 2027. More open season on scams.  Trump not only worsens fire risks with full throttle climate arson, he cuts wildfire monitoring & research at the same time. Mark Carney ditto. Why bother monitoring for wildfires & warning those endangered while fires rage out of control?  Carney sees Trump do something dangerous & races to compound the problem. He doesn’t just appease Trump.  He doubles down on him. He magnifies him. You can't protect Canada from Trump by emulating him, FFS. Between escalating climate impacts & emergent disease threats, the need for foreign aid has never been this extreme. Assisted by the sig heiling richest sociopath on Earth, the Trump government obliterated US foreign aid, apex cruelty with a horrifically high body count. Mark Carney followed suit, cutting $2.7 Billion, nearly half, from Canada's already-among-the-lowest-among-peer-nations measly $6 Billion foreign aid budget. Here's video of him promising during the election to *not* cut foreign aid:  I Canada's foreign aid expenditures, c.0.25% of GDP, were already shy of our national pledges in international agreements. The official UN target we've never come close to is 0.7% of GDP. Think this is what the PM meant by "When we are kind, kindness grows"?  Aid cuts are hardly the only cuts at Global Affairs Canada. With geopolitics at their most tense in generations, the Carney government also fired dozens of skilled diplomats & international relations experts. Trump's contempt for diplomacy is apparently contagious, too. Trump's ICE deportations violate international human rights. Carney's border bills violate the exact same rights for asylum seekers & refugees. Canceling immigration status of entire groups without due process or possibility of appeal. Trump might as well have written them.  Separating nursing infants from their mothers by force isn't just in America anymore. It's Carney's Canada, too. Rushing deportations before asylum seekers get a chance to pursue their legal options. Carney's Canada is cruel.  Trump undermines the rule of law in the USA. Carney undermines the rule of law in Canada. The whole concept of the rule of law becomes meaningless when members of Cabinet can choose corporations, organizations or individuals to enjoy an exemption from almost any law.  Trump’s government absolutely doesn’t give a shit about human rights. That's not news to anybody who's even half awake. "Anti-DEI" means explicitly racist erasure of domestic human rights. Trump's war crimes are constant contempt for international human rights.  Carney government just completely eliminated the office that monitors & responds to Canadian-based corporations violating international human rights. Headquartered in 🇨🇦 & want to maximize overseas profits with *literal slavery*? You're in luck: it's open season now.  Carney provides Canada with his own racially targeted policies, singling out First Nations peoples for mulitple new legislative violations of their human rights and targeted cuts to their access to basic services. He's an anti-reconciliation nightmare. Trump bypasses US congress to allow weapons shipments to Israel for use in their war crimes. Carney votes down an effort in parliament to get Canada to comply with international law by stopping illegal arms shipments to Israel.  Carney installs fossil fuel industry insiders into high impact government positions. Trump also installs fossil fuel industry insiders into high impact government positions.  Trump significantly reduced accountability and transparency în filling influential high level positions. Guess what? So did Carney. Trudeau made government job appointments more transparent; Carney's doing the complete opposite.  shrlnk.ca/s/5RnymGU8 Funding & staff cuts at Statistics Canada and Library & Archives undermine 🇨🇦 public access to information.  Reducing citizen knowledge of government actions has even become automated under Carney with an AI. Thats Trumpian, too.  But is Mark Carney making it a lot easier for billionaire dark money to invisibly buy more influence in future elections, opening the door to wealthy interests undermining democracy & policy making, hidden from the view of the public, much like Trump has? You bethca. Trump's willing to welcome literal species extinctions, killing protections for endangered species habitat. & you guessed it: Carney see, Carney do. Carney supporters will scream that Trump's doing this stuff worse than Carney, which very deliberately misses the point. Sure, a US president can appoint more cronies, misspend more money, abuse more power, than a Canuck PM. What matters hugely here is *both aiming in the same evil direction.* Carney doesn’t go as far as Trump yet, but he's treading the exact same road. There’s simply no justification for heading down this particular path at all. And no government gives itself unconstitutional powers without planning to use them. These aren't one offs or exceptions. It's a pattern.  Carney has provided the most climate hostile policy agenda of any Canadian government in history. We're a global climate laggard. Every major policy he's issued that relates to the climate is in the service of climate arson. Burning down our home *also* can't make us any safer from Trump. Military intelligence calls the climate issue a threat multiplier that worsens all known national security threats while rapidly creating new ones. For Canada, that very much includes national security threats from below the 49th parallel.  Climate impacts are exacerbating major drought in the USA, making the likelihood of the USA acting to annex Canada or otherwise plan to seize Canada's water resources - fully 7% of all the world's renewable freshwater supply - that much higher the thirstier they get.  ... A hotter climate is worsening the wildfires that are serving as an excuse for Trump to target Canada more directly right now.  Extreme weather increasingly reduces crop yields, making Canada more dependent on grocery imports from the USA as our agricultural productivity declines. Which will come with higher prices as their productivity declines, too. Plus that yummy diarrhea lettuce. https://shrlnk.ca/s/n9JMKnkh Remember that Carney's fossil fuel expansion plans primarily benefit fossil fuel shareholders in the USA far more than they support benefits to Canadians.  You don't need a PhD in economics to grasp that enriching Trump's cronies also doesn't make us safer from Trump.  Diplomatically, Carney appeases Trump repeatedly with consistent support for international war crimes committed by Trump, whether in Venezuela or Iran or elsewhere, & echoing Trump's false justifications. This already long post would be twice as long if we dug deep into how he keeps positioning 🇨🇦 on team Trump on the world stage.  Taking Trump's side in every case of Trump vs International Law can't make us safer, but sends a signal to the rest of the world that Canada won't support others when Trump commits war crimes against them, making it less likely that others will stick their necks out for us when it's our turn.  Carney's determination to embed AI in every aspect of governance as rapidly as possible exposes vital Canadian data & public services to US tech billionaires in Trump's inner circle. "AI for all" surrenders control of Canadian data to US interests.  Palantir plays a direct role in the USA bombing grade schools & makes no secret at all of their deep alignment with Trump's overt fascism. How can installing them into the core of Canada's defence network possibly make us the tiniest bit safer from Trump?  Carney talks "helping Make America Great Again" & publicly states that he's open to deeper integration, including sovereignty-violating "fortress North America." You don't protect yourself from a belligerent neighbour by giving them your passwords and a key to your house.  Carney's "protecting us from Trump" so hard that he's giving the Pentagon stranglehold control over vital Canadian mining sectors. Carney supporters: US dominance over Canadian mines protects us from the USA how, exactly? Is it always opposite day in LPC land?  Carney has learned to "see the value" in Trump's "flooding the zone." Which is why his cuts to health care & climate arson & erosion of democracy are buried in a rapid fire barrage of announcements & changes to keep citizen response to his policies off balance.  Carney's very, very good at misrepresenting himself and telling audiences what they want to hear. His book Values spoke of noble values that his policies defy. His great speech at Davos was well received, so it's a darned shame his policies prove he meant none of it.  Dude lies like a Trump, but far more competently. Dangerously focussed. Sticks to his talking points. No frequent public self-contradiction, no rambling cognitive decline, no impulsive blurting the quiet part out loud. He's laser focussed on image control & a consistent manufactured narrative.  His ultimate loyalty is to capital. Inequality über alles. Inequality's off the charts, and he'd clearly sacrifice the rest of us to spawn more Trillionaires. You can't take the lifelong dedication to making the rich richer out of the celebrated career banker.   And that's what explains all the rest of this mess. It's impossible to protect Canada from Trump by rolling out the red carpet for every tech billionaire who rides in Air Force One with Trump. Trump's the evil clown public face of those billionaires' policy agenda.  The same way the Trump regime keeps implementing more of Project 2025, a vile platform of right wing billionaire whims, Mark Carney has been steadily implementing the policy prescriptions in Build Canada, an incredibly similar wish list promoted by 🇨🇦's broligarchs.  Gladhanding for new trade deals is arguably the part of the job Carney's previous positions best suit him for, so he's spent a fifth of his first year in office out of country seeking deals, shrinking the USA's share from 76% of Canada's total exports down to 72%. Not nothing, but hardly huge.  Looking beyond his optimistic international trade press statements, though, we see they're long on non-binding agreements-in-principle that suggest the *possibility* of future trade improvements but are surprisingly short on actually signed new trade agreements.  Capital isn't altruistic. It's not eager to improve our lives, but to control domestic businesses & move profits offshore. How much of Carney's "deal making" adds up to just selling off Canadian assets & sovereignty will only be clear once it's too late.  It's as soul crushing how consistent this all is as it's demoralizing how LPC partisans eagerly & aggressively cheerlead for it. Point out that RFK Jr making health worse is a bad time to cut our health care, too, & they only want to insult you & yell about Poilievre

both of them would sell canada to the US for a bbq cornchip just to enrich themselves fucken duh?
