BREAKING: Border Czar Tom Homan picks a fight with Pope Leo XIV while absurdly claiming to be a Catholic after the church comes out forcefully against his brutal ICE crackdowns. This hateful ogre is about as Catholic as J.D. Vance is... “The Catholic Church is wrong,” Homan told reporters. “I’m a lifelong Catholic, but I’m saying it not only as a border czar, but I’m also saying this as a Catholic." “A secure border saves lives. We’re going to enforce the law and by doing that we save a lot of lives,” he added. “ICE is sending a message to the whole world.” Homan's ignorant remarks come in the wake of a special message issued by the U.S. Conference of Bishops earlier this week condemning the Trump administration's “indiscriminate” raids. The statement was issued after Pope Leo XIV called on American bishops to be more forceful in their defense of migrants against the MAGA White House. “We are disturbed when we see among our people a climate of fear and anxiety around questions of profiling and immigration enforcement,” they stated. “We are saddened by the state of contemporary debate and the vilification of immigrants.” The bishops lamented the fact that some immigrants "have arbitrarily lost their legal status," that places of worship have been targeted in raids, and that families have been torn apart. "Catholic teaching exhorts nations to recognize the fundamental dignity of all persons, including immigrants. We bishops advocate for a meaningful reform of our nation's immigration laws and procedures," the wrote. Homan claiming to be a Catholic while stating that the Catholic Church is wrong about the humane treatment of migrants is the kind of self-righteous faux religiosity that we've come to expect from this soulless administration. One of the defining spiritual traits of Catholics as compared to other Christian denominations is that they defer to the authority of the pope. You do not get to argue with him on moral matters. Homan can choose to be a MAGA fascist or he can choose to be a faithful Catholic. He cannot choose to be both.
