Our "job" is hard sometimes. This post is not to draw sympathy but to remind folks that we share this earth with many other creatures. Today, a goose and his 4 young were run down by a driver in Lenexa. Lenexa animal control was quickly on the scene and they were able to get the goslings to a safe pond where another adult goose floated over to greet them. Unfortunately, the parent goose was badly injured by the hit and run driver. Lenexa animal control called us and then drove him to our facility to see if we could help. His injuries were fatal and we euthanized him to give him a release from his pain and suffering. I held his head in my hand as he slowly drifted off, telling him I was sorry and it would be okay. My hand had his blood on it and I was hit by the fact that I've had a lot of animals blood on my hands over the years. We live in a society that only knows "fast" and we often don't slow down and see the beauty that surrounds us. Life can be fleeting - make it count and for the love of God slow down.
