Jeff Bezos has invested $42 million to build an extraordinary clock inside a mountain that is designed to tick just once a year for the next 10,000 years. Known as the "Clock of the Long Now" or the "10,000-year clock," this project aims to outlast humanity itself. The concept was originally proposed by computer scientist and inventor Danny Hillis in 1995. Danny envisioned a clock that would tick only once a year, with a special hand that moves every 100 years and a bell that rings once every 1,000 years. His goal was to create a timekeeping device that would continue to function for 10,000 years. After years of planning and designing, the final design is now complete, and parts for the clock are being manufactured. The clock is being constructed in the Sierra Diablo mountains in West Texas, on land owned by Jeff Bezos. It is designed to last for millennia and will operate using the Earth's natural temperature changes. The clock will feature five large rooms, each commemorating significant anniversaries: the first year, the 10th year, the 100th year, the 1,000th year, and the 10,000th year. There is no specific completion date for the clock's construction. Its location is very remote, requiring a long hike to reach, which is intended to inspire deep reflection and contemplation.
